Toledo Service Project (TSP)

TSP is a year round program offering participants age twelve and up an experience in service learning. Hands-on projects and awareness sessions help groups build relationships with community members and develop a better knowledge of urban life.

Toledo Service Project provides participants with an experience in service learning, giving them hands-on projects and helping them build relationships with members of the community.

Throughout the year, service projects are provided in various settings and range from painting a home for a low-income homeowner to landscaping to interacting with adults and children at a soup kitchen, shelter, or children’s program.

TSP also serves participants by providing awareness sessions on current urban issues such as homelessness, poverty, diversity, HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, and violence.

Common Questions

How skilled do we need to be?

Unskilled first-timers are welcome, as well as, participants with more experience.  Worksites are selected for participants according to their individual skill levels as closely as possible.  If you are not comfortable doing it, we won’t ask you to!

How many and how old?

Groups may bring up to 35 people at one time.  Youth must be twelve years of age or older with a minimum of one adult for every five youth.  Small groups may be combined.

Who provides the materials?

FOCUS, local agencies, neighborhood associations, homeowners, and church sponsors provide the materials and tools.  While not required, groups sometimes donate worksite supplies.

What is the cost?

Cost is $30 PER person - PER day with a $50 non-refundable reservation fee per group.

What else is there to do?

Depending on day, season, or weather, there is a variety of things to do including: the Toledo Zoo, Tony Packo’s Hungarian Restaurant, bowling, putt-putt, the Toledo Museum of Art, and the Mill Youth Center.

Transportation and overnight accommodations are each group’s responsibility. We will provide you with a list of local places to stay with discount rates as low as $49 for up to four people.
